St. Anthony Of Padua

For my Saint project I chose to do my saint on St. Anthony. I chose St Anthony because my brothers middle name is Anthony and I heard he performed some miracles and I was interested to see what he did.

St.  Anthony of Padua was born in 1195 in Lisbon (Portugal) in a very wealthy family; his father was the captain of the army. He was baptized and named “Ferdinand.” His parents wanted him to be a great nobleman (with a lot of respect like a king) but when Anthony grew up he wanted to become a priest. He received an excellent education from the Augustinian friars and joined the order. Anthony’s parents were very rich but Anthony wanted to be poor for the sake of Jesus so he became a Franciscan.

Anthony was a great preacher, he was sent out as a missionary in many cities in Italy and France. He brought people that sinned back from god though his good examples and preaching’s. One day Anthony was praying and Jesus came to him because he kept his soul from sins and because he loved Jesus.

St. Anthony died in 1231 at the age of 36 and his feast day is June 13th.

* What have you learnt about ‘compassion’ and ‘social justice’ over the past few weeks? I have understood the meanings of ‘compassion’ and ‘Social justice’ really well. Compassion is where you are not judging other people in the wrong way and always being helpful to others, being like a thrid hand for a person. Social Justice is where people have there own rights in life and where everything is safe and everyone is treated equaly in the right way.

* What understandings have you developed about the idea of ‘The Kingdom of God’? I believe the kingdom of god is a place that pretty much somes up all the Beatitudes.

* What part of the Beatitudes inspired you? Why? well my group got the quote “blessed are the meek for they will inherit the earth”. That inspiries me to be to be a person who is loving and to be the best person I can posibly be.

* What are you hoping to find out more about during the rest of the unit? I would like to know more about other peoples beatitudes. :)
